Imports to Albania went up 4.4 percent year-on-year to ALL 55.5 billion in December of 2016, driven by construction materials (+22.6 percent); leather goods (+15.5 percent) and wood and paper products (+13.3 percent). Main import partners were: United States (+39 percent), Germany (+37.9 percent), Kosovo (+38.1 percent) and Ukraine (+17.2 percent). Considering full 2016, imports advanced 6.3 percent to ALL 579 billion.

Exports from Albania rose 22.5 percent year-on-year to ALL 21.8 billion in December of 2016, boosted by construction materials (+64.1 percent); food, beverages and tobacco (+39.9 percent) and machinery and equipment (+16.6 percent). By trading partners, sales increased to Turkey (+203 percent), China (+190 percent), Croatia (+61.8 percent), Macedonia (+60.3 percent) and Kosovo (+26.8 percent). Considering full 2016, exports went up 0.1 percent to ALL 243 billion.

Albania Balance of Trade at -33679.40 ALL Million


Trade deficit in Albania narrowed 4.7 percent year-on-year to ALL 33.7 billion in December of 2016 compared to ALL 35.4 billion a year ago. Exports rose at a faster 22.5 percent to ALL 21.8 billion boosted by construction materials (+64.1 percent); food, beverages and tobacco (+39.9 percent) and machinery and equipment (+16.6 percent). Sales increased to Turkey (+203 percent), China (+190 percent), Croatia (+61.8 percent), Macedonia (+60.3 percent) and Kosovo (+26.8 percent). Imports went up 4.4 percent to ALL 55.5 billion as purchases were higher for construction materials (+22.6 percent); leather goods (+15.5 percent) and wood and paper products (+13.3 percent). Purchases increased from the United States (+39 percent), Germany (+37.9 percent), Kosovo (+38.1 percent) and Ukraine (+17.2 percent). Considering full 2016, the trade deficit widened by 11.3 percent to ALL 335 billion, as exports went up 0.1 percent while imports advanced 6.3 percent.

Consumer confidence in Albania increased to -9.6 in the fourth quarter of 2016 from -14.4 in the previous period. Households were less pessimistic regarding actual financial situation (-4.3 from -5.9 in Q3); major purchases prospects (-45.6 from -54.6 in Q3) and savings (-38.8 from -40.4 in Q3). Meantime, expectations regarding the general economic situation rose (+11.0 from +5.5 in Q3).

Expectations declined for production (+7.9 from +14.2 in Q3) and employment (+9.8 from +13.2 in Q3) and deteriorated further for new orders (-15 from -10.5 in Q3) and inventories (-6.9 from -6.1 in Q3).
