Brazil Posts Trade Surplus in December

After an unexpected trade deficit in November 2012, Brazil posted a $2.25 billion surplus in December 2012, according to a report from the Ministry of Foreign Trade.

Compared to November, exports fell to $19.5 billion from $20.47 billion and imports decreased to $17.50 billion from $20.65 billion. Compared with December 2011, exports decreased by 1.8% while imports rose by 5.0%.

In 2012, Brazil recorded a trade surplus of $19.44 billion. The trade surplus decreased by 34.8% when compared to 2011 primarily due to a fall in prices since the export volume was unchanged from last year.
