Italy Unemployment Rate Stable at 11.1% in November


The number of unemployed amounted to 2.87 million, a slight decrease (-2 thousand) compared to October. The decrease in unemployment affects primarily the female component. On an annual basis, unemployment increased by 21.4% (+507 thousand units).

The unemployment rate amounted to 11.1%, unchanged from October and an increase of 1.8 percentage points over the year. The employment rate, equal to 56.8%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points in comparison economic and unchanged from a year earlier. In November 2012 the employed population is 22.87 million, a decrease of 0.2% as compared to October (-42 thousand) and on an annual basis (-37 thousand).

Between 15 to 24 years olds people looking for work are 641 000, representing 10.6% of the population in this age group. The unemployment rate for 15 to 24 years olds, which is the ratio of unemployed to the total of those employed or looking, is equal to 37.1%, up 0.7 percentage points from the previous month and 5.0 points from the previous year.
 
The number of inactive individuals aged between 15 and 64 years increased by 0.3% compared to the previous month (+39 thousand units). The inactivity rate stood at 36.1%, up 0.1 percentage points month-to-month and a decrease of 1.2 points on an annual basis.
