Mexico Inflation Down to 3.57% in December


The consumer price index increased 0.23 percent compared to November 2012 and 3.57 percent compared to the same month of the previous year according to a report by the National Institute of Statistics.

The annual inflation in Mexico decreased from 3.82 percent in December 2011 to 3.57 percent. Compared with the previous month, inflation rate fell from 0.82 percent in December of 2011 to 0.23 percent in December of 2012. The core consumer price index increased 0.12 percent compared to November 2012 and 2.9 percent year-on-year.

Compared to the previous month, the index of agricultural products rose 0.74 percent: the group of fruits and vegetables did by 0.56 percent and livestock products by 0.85 percent. The subscript of energy showed a monthly rise of 0.48 percent. The index for food, beverages and tobacco increased 0.46 percent while services decreased 0.17 percent, mainly due to promotions in the mobile phone service and air transport.
