Japan Inflation Rate Down to -0.3 Percent in January


The consumer price index for Japan in January 2013 was 99.3(2010=100), the same level as the previous month, and down 0.3% over the year.

Core inflation in Japan was down 0.2 percent on year in January. On month, core inflation eased 0.3 percent.

Core CPI for the Tokyo region, considered a leading indicator for the nationwide trend, was down 0.6 percent on year in February compared to expectations for -0.5 percent, which would have been unchanged.
