Austria's industrial production fell by 1.1 percent year-on-year in January 2017, compared to an upwardly revised 3.2 percent growth in December 2016. It was the first fall since July 2016 and the sharpest since November 2014 due to decreases in manufacturing (-1.0 percent from 4.2 percent in December 2016), construction (-5.6 percent from 1.1 percent), and water supply and waste disposal (-27.8 percent from -12.8 percent). In contrast output rose at a faster pace for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (16.6 percent from 10.8 percent) and mining and quarrying rebounded (24.2 percent from -4.1 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output shrank 1.7 percent.

Year-on-year, the GDP expanded 1.7 percent after growing by 1.3 percent in the previous period and below a preliminary figure of 1.8 percent.
