Bangladesh Inflation Rate at 5.15 percent


Consumer prices in Bangladesh jumped 5.15 percent year-on-year in January of 2017, following a 5.03 percent increase in the preceding month. Main contributors to the rise were: food (6.53 percent vs 5.38 percent in December); gross rent, fuel and lighting (3.17 percent vs 0.10 percent) and recreation and culture (5.37 percent vs 0.06 percent). Meanwhile, cost went up at slower rate for clothing and footwear (0.09 percent vs 0.23 percent); transport and communication (0.25 percent vs 1 percent); health (0.03 percent vs 0.20 percent) and furnishing (0.30 percent vs 0.95 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.21 percent compared to a 0.15 percent increase in December.
