Belgium Industrial Production at 3.80 percent


Industrial production in Belgium increased 3.8 percent in September of 2016, following an upwardly revised 10.4 percent growth in the previous period. Manufacturing output fell 0.7 percent (+6.4 percent in August), dragged down by food products and beverages (-0.4 percent); metallurgy (-5.3 percent); and machinery and equipment (-5.2 percent). In contrast, mining rose at a faster 15.8 percent (+7.2 percent) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning went up 45.2 percent (+46.5 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output increased 0.1 percent.

Belgium GDP Growth Rate at 0.20 percent


Belgium's gross domestic product expanded by 0.2 percent on quarter in the three months to September of 2016, easing from a 0.5 percent growth in the previous period and matching the preliminary estimate. Net external demand contributed positively, as exports rose by 0.3 percent (+0.9 percent in Q2), while imports showed no growth (+0.6 percent in Q2). Household consumption also advanced by 0.4 percent (+0.4 percent in Q2), while government spending edged down 0.1 percent (-0.2 percent in Q2) and fixed investment contracted 0.5 percent (+1.5 percent in Q2). On the production side, industry expanded by 0.5 percent, construction by 0.7 percent and services by 0.1 percent. Year-on-year, the economy grew 1.3 percent.
