Botswana Inflation Rate at 3.10 percent  
Consumer prices in Botswana rose 3.1 percent year-on-year in January of 2017, after a 3 percent gain in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since December of 2015 as prices increased further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4 percent from 3.9 percent in December of 2016), housing and utilities (3.5 percent from 3.3 percent) and alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (3.8 percent from 2.8 percent). Additional upward pressure came from: miscellaneous goods and services (7.6 percent from 7.9 percent), furnishing (3.1 percent from 2.8 percent) and restaurants and hotels (3.6 percent from 3.1 percent). In contrast, transport cost declined more (-0.9 percent from -0.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer inflation went up 0.4 percent compared with 0.1 percent gain a month earlier.
