Consumer prices in Cyprus increased 1.9 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, accelerating from a 1.7 percent rise in the prior month. It is the highest inflation rate since September of 2012, mainly driven by faster increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.4 percent vs 3.1 percent in February), transport (2.6 percent vs 3.3 percent) and housing and utilities (8.6 percent vs 6.7 percent). In contrast, cost declined for miscellaneous goods and services (-0.6 percent vs -0.3 percent), clothing and footwear (-1.6 percent vs 1.9 percent) and furniture (-1.2 percent vs -2.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.9 percent compared to a 0.4 percent increase in February.

Exports edged up 0.1 percent (7.9 percent in Q3) while imports jumped 20.8 percent (-0.7 percent in Q3). On a quarterly basis, the economy advanced 0.7 percent, also better than a flash reading of 0.5 percent growth.
