Czech Republic Producer Prices Change at 3.00 percent  
Producer prices in Czech Republic rose 3 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, following a 3.1 percent increase in February and below market expectations of a 3.3 percent rise. It was the third rise in producer prices since December of 2013, mainly driven by higher cost of coke and refined petroleum products. Upward pressure came from: mining and quarrying (6.2 percent); manufacturing (3.8 percent), mainly food products, beverages, tobacco (1.5 percent), basic metals and fabricated metal products (6.1 percent) and machinery and equipment (0.9 percent); and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services (2.1 percent). In contrast, prices went down for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (-1.2 percent) and transport equipment (-0.8 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices edged down 0.1 percent, following a 0.4 percent rise in February while market expected a 0.1 percent increase.

Czech consumer prices increased 2.6 percent year-on-year in March 2017, following a 2.5 percent gain in the previous month and in line with market expectations. It was the highest inflation rate since November 2012, as cost rose at a faster pace for: housing and utilities (0.9 percent from 0.8 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.4 percent from 3.1 percent). Additional upward pressure came from: food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.4 percent from 4.6 percent in January) and transport (6.3 percent from 6.6 percent). Inflation was steady for recreation and culture (at 0.8 percent). Meanwhile, prices of furnishings and household equipment continued to fall (-0.3 percent from -1.3 percent in January). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat after rising by 0.4 percent in January, and in line with market consensus.

Czech industrial output rose by 2.7 percent year-on-year in February 2017, compared to an upwardly revised 10.3 percent rise in the previous month. Manufacturing went up by 2.2 percent after increasing by 10.6 percent in January, as output rose at a slower pace for textiles (2.2 percent vs 7.6 percent in January), chemical (18.8 percent vs 22.6 percent), rubber and plastic products (5.4 percent vs 10.4 percent), and electrical equipment (1.1 percent vs 12.0 percent). Output went up at a faster pace for pharmaceutical products (15.9 percent vs 6.7 percent). In contrast, production fell for other transport equipment (-15.4 percent), food products (-1.5 percent), and leather and related products (-4.2 percent). Meanwhile, mining and quarrying rose by 2.1 percent (from -15.1 percent) while electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply grew by 6.0 percent (from 14.1 percent). On monthly basis industrial production increased by 0.7 percent.

Year-on-year, the economy advanced 1.9 percent after growing by 1.8 percent in the previous period and better than a preliminary figure of 1.7 percent. Considering full 2016, the GDP grew 2.3 percent after expanding 3.5 percent in 2015.
