Estonia Unemployment Rate at 6.60 percent


Estonia's unemployment rate decreased to 6.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 from 7.5 percent in the previous period and 6.4 percent in the same quarter last year. It was the lowest reading since the second quarter, as the number of unemployed went down to 44.1 thousand (from 52.9 thousand in Q3 and 43.9 thousand a year ago) while the number of employed fell to 638.2 thousand (from 653.3 thousand in Q3 and 639.4 thousand a year ago). For the full year 2016, jobless rate was 6.8% as the number of unemployed person increased by 4,400 persons, compared to a 6.2 percent in 2015. While the participation rate was 70.4 percent in 2016.

Estonia Balance of Trade at -170.31 EUR Million


Estonia recorded a trade deficit of 170.3 EUR million in December of 2016, compared to a 168.4 EUR million gap a year earlier. Year-on-year, sales rose 10.0 percent to 0.99 EUR bilion while imports went up 8.0 percent to 1.16 EUR billion. Considering full 2016, exports grew by 3.0 percent from the same period a year earlier to 11.89 EUR billion, driven by electrical equipment (22 percent of total sales), wood and articles of wood (10 percent of total share) and agricultural products and food preparations (9 percent of total share). The main destination countries of the country's exports were Sweden (18 percent of total sales), Finland (16 percent of total share) and Latvia (9 percent of total share). Imports also increased by 3.0 percent to 13.50 EUR billion. That brought trade deficit of 1.62 EUR billion during the year, compared to a 1.55 EUR billion deficit in 2015.
