Imports to the European Union rose 1 percent to €146.7 billion in September 2016 compared to €145.2 billion a year earlier. In January to September 2016, imports contracted 3 percent to €1,264.6 billion from €1,298.9 billion, as purchases declined the most for energy (-27 percent) and raw materials (-8 percent). Among trading partners, the decline in imports mainly reflected the strong fall in purchases from Norway (-20 percent) and Russia (-19 percent). Imports in European Union averaged 112051.53 EUR Million from 1999 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 161949.80 EUR Million in October of 2012 and a record low of 52217.00 EUR Million in February of 1999.
