Georgia Producer Prices Change at 9.10 percent  
Producer prices in Georgia rose by 9.1 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, after a 9.6 percent increase in the preceding month. It was the fifth straight month of rise, mainly boosted by an increase in prices of mining and quarrying (12.6 percent from 21.0 percent in February); electricity, gas and water (10.6 percent from 12.8 percent), and manufacturing (8.6 percent from 8.5 percent), namely basic metals and fabricated metal products (38.4 percent from 39.6 percent), food, beverages and tobacco products (7.8 percent from 7.5 percent), and rubber and plastic products (12.7 percent from 11.0 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went down 1.4 percent, after growing by 1.0 percent in the prior month.

Georgia Current Account at -701.88 USD Million  
Georgia's current account deficit increased to 701.88 USD million in the December quarter of 2016 from a 574.34 USD million gap in the same quarter a year earlier. It was the largest deficit since the fourth quarter 2014 as goods account posted a deficit of 1,085.97 USD million, up from a 1,066.47 USD million deficit in Q4 2015 and the deficit in income account increased to 206.48 USD million (from 30.96 USD million). Meanwhile, services account registered a surplus of 325.58 USD million, widening from a 280.35 USD million gap in the fourth quarter of the prior year. For full year 2016, current account recorded a deficit of 1,990.86 USD million, compared to a 1,783.10 USD million in 2015.

Consumer prices in Georgia increased 5.4 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, following a 5.5 percent rise in the previous month. Prices rose at a slower pace for : food (5.4 percent vs 5.5 percent in the previous month); housing and utilities (0.7 percent vs 2.3 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (16.0 percent vs 16.3 percent); restaurants and hotels (1.0 percent vs 1.8 percent), and communication (0.6 percent vs 0.7 percent). Prices increased at a faster pace for : transport (18.7 percent vs 17.4 percent); health (4.2 percent vs 4.0 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.2 percent vs 1.6 percent). Inflation were steady for education (1.3 percent). In contrast prices went down for : furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (-0.9 percent), clothing and footwear (-4.0 percent) and recreation and culture (-0.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, output contracted for: communication (-1.4 percent from 7.4 percent) and mining and quarrying (-11.6 percent from 25.5 percent). On the other hand, manufacturing rebounded (6.7 percent from -1.9 percent). For full 2016, the economy grew by 2.7 percent year-on-year, compared to a 2.9 percent growth in 2015.
