The trade deficit in Jordan narrowed 18.6 percent year-on-year to 537 JOD Million in September of 2016 from a 659 JOD Million gap a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports fell 4.93 percent to 458 JOD Million while imports decreased sharper by 12.9 percent to 994 JOD Million. Considering January to September, the country's trade gap declined 10.7 percent over a year earlier to 6046 JOD Million. Exports were down 4.0 percent to 3998 JOD Million, as sales of fruits and vegetables decreased by 19.2 percent, crude potash by 34 percent while shipments of clothes and its related accessories went up 0.9 percent and pharmaceutical products by 12 percent. Imports fell 8.1 percent to 10044 JOD Million on lower purchases of oil (-32 percent) and machines and machinery (-18.4 percent). Balance of Trade in Jordan averaged -224078.13 JOD Thousands from 1972 until 2016, reaching an all time high of -3400.00 JOD Thousands in January of 1974 and a record low of -1034553.00 JOD Thousands in April of 2014.
