The trade deficit in Jordan increased 6.4 percent year-on-year to 721.5 JOD Million in December of 2016 from 678.2 JOD Million shortfall a year ago. Exports declined 8.6 percent to 432.3 JOD Million while imports went up a meager 0.2 percent to 1153.7 JOD Million. Considering whole 2016, the country´s trade gap fell 7.5 percent year-on-year to 8305.6 JOD Million. Exports were down 4.1 percent to 5331.4 JOD Million, as sales decreased for: crude potash (-30.6 percent); vegetables and fruits (-22.4 percent), crude phosphates (-17 percent) and fertilizers (-32 percent). Meantime, imports shrank 6.2 percent to 13637 JOD Million due to lower purchases of crude oil (-21.6 percent), machinery and equipment (-11.6 percent) and iron products (-7.1 percent). Balance of Trade in Jordan averaged -227017.16 JOD Thousands from 1972 until 2016, reaching an all time high of -3400 JOD Thousands in January of 1974 and a record low of -1034553 JOD Thousands in April of 2014.
