Lithuania GDP Growth Rate at 1.40 percent


The Lithuanian economy expanded 1.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter of 2017, compared to an upwardly revised 1.5 percent growth in the previous period, according to preliminary estimates. The growth was driven by manufacturing and wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, transportation and storage, and accommodation and food services. On a yearly basis, the GDP advanced 3.8 percent, following 3.4 percent expansion in the previous quarter.

Retail sales in Lithuania increased 6.8 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, following 5.5 percent gain in the previous month. Sales went up at a faster pace for: non-food products (13.1 percent vs 4.1 percent); electronic goods and furniture (16.2 percent vs 5 percent); pharmaceuticals and cosmetics (5 percent vs -0.1 percent) and textiles, clothing, and footwear (16.2 percent vs 1.8 percent). In contrast, sales slowed for automotive fuel (17.2 percent vs 20.8 percent) and via mail or internet (16.6 percent vs 16.9 percent) and slumped for food products (-3.8 percent vs -0.2 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales jumped 13.4 percent.
