Moldova Interest Rate at 9.00 percent  
The National Bank of Moldova left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 9 percent at its February 2017 meeting, mentioning external and internal risks to inflation including rising international food prices, uncertainties over oil and natural gas prices, high liquidity in the money market and the impact of tax changes. The central bank targets inflation at 5% ± 1.5 percentage points and expects it to reach 4.9 percent in 2017. Annual inflation rate increased to 3 percent in January from 2.4 percent in the previous month. The overnight deposit and credit rates were also kept on hold at 6 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

Moldova Industrial Production at 8.70 percent  
Industrial output in Moldova jumped 8.7 percent year-on-year in December of 2016, compared to a downwardly revised 3.9 percent growth in the prior month. It is the strongest expansion since April last year, prompted by a surge in manufacturing (9.6 percent vs 2 percent in November), namely food products (31.4 percent vs -8.8 percent); processed and preserved meat products (17 percent vs 1.4 percent); textiles (75.3 percent vs 23 percent) and basic metals (29.2 percent vs -44.3 percent). In addition, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply increased but at a slower 6.9 percent (from 17.7 percent). By contrast, mining fell further (-12.2 percent vs -11.9 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production advanced 7.2 percent following a 2.8 percent rise in November. Considering whole 2016, industrial output went up 0.9 percent compared to 2015.
