Montenegro Balance of Trade at -126665.00 EUR Thousand  
The trade deficit in Montenegro rose to EUR 126.7 million in February of 2017 from a EUR 109.7 million gap a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports and imports jumped 15.4 percent to EUR 26.1 million and EUR 152.7 million, respectively. In the first two months of the year, trade gap widened to 203.6 million from 178.1 million a year ago. Sales advanced 30.1 percent, led by crude material, inedible, except fuels (134.7 percent); manufactured goods (8 percent); mineral fuels, lubricants and raw materials (38 percent); machinery and transport equipment (23.2 percent) and food (24.4 percent). Export went up to: Bosnia and Herzegovina (176 percent) and Slovenia (29.5 percent). Imports rose 17.1 percent, boosted by chemicals (16.9 percent); manufactured goods (28.8 percent); minerals fuels, lubricants and related materials (61.4 percent), machinery and transport equipment (14.5 percent). Imports rose from Serbia (15 percent) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (46.8 percent) and Germany (17.7 percent).

Industrial production in Montenegro went up 6.2 percent year-on-year in February of 2017, after falling by 19.5 percent in the previous month. Output rebounded for electricity, gas, steam (13.6 percent from -26.3 percent in January) and accelerated for mining (200 percent from 53.3 percent), driven by higher coal and lignite production. Also, manufacturing fell at a slower pace (-17.2 percent from -21.6 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production rose 34.1 percent.

It was the highest inflation rate since July of 2013, as prices increased at a faster pace for transport (10 percent from 8.6 percent in January) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.7 percent from 1.2 percent). Additional upward pressure came from: housing and utilities (1.9 percent vs 2.5 percent); health (3.6 percent from 3.7 percent); restaurants and hotels (3.2 percent from 3.1 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.1 percent from 3 percent) and communication (0.3 percent, the same as in the previous month). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1 percent compared to 0.3 percent gain in January.
