Industrial production in Montenegro slumped 13.3 percent year-on-year in October of 2016, following a 4.4 percent growth in September. Output fell sharply for capital goods (-25.5 percent vs -3.2 percent in September) and consumer non-durables (-41.9 percent vs +30.1 percent). In contrast, production rose for consumer durables (+2.7 percent vs -0.2 percent); energy (+10.8 percent vs +1.4 percent) and intermediate goods (+1.2 percent vs -10.9 percent). By sector, production declined for manufacturing (-26.4 percent vs +5.4 percent), driven by chemicals (-41.2 percent); pharmaceuticals (-63.1 percent) and machinery and equipment (-24.8 percent). In contrast, production increased for electricity, gas, steam (+13.3 percent vs +2.7 percent) and mining and quarrying (+7.6 percent vs +6 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial production decreased 2.4 percent.
