Namibia Inflation Rate at 8.20 percent  
Namibia consumer prices jumped to 8.2 percent in January of 2017, after remaining unchanged for the third consecutive month at 7.3 percent in December. It was the highest inflation rate since October of 2009 as prices rose faster for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (13.2 percent from 12.5 percent); housing and utilities (9.3 percent from 7.6 percent) and transport (5.2 percent from 3.9 percent. Additional upward pressure came from: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.8 percent from 5.6 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (7.2 percent from 5.8 percent), hotels and restaurants (9.8 percent from 10.3 percent), furnishings (9.5 percent from 7.9 percent) and education (8.2 percent from 7.6 percent). On a monthly basis, inflation rate went up 3.2 percent following a 0.2 percent gain in the previous month, the highest level since at least 2011 mainly boosted by housing and utilities (7.6 percent from percent, after being flat in December).

The central bank of Namibia kept its benchmark repo rate on hold at 7 percent at its February 2017 meeting, saying current policy stance is appropriate to support growth.
