Norway GDP Growth Rate at -0.50 percent  
The Norwegian economy shrank 0.5 percent quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2016, following a stagnation in the previous three months and missing market consensus. It was the first contraction since the December quarter of 2015, driven by a decline in petroleum activities and ocean transport (-3.1 percent from -1.8 percent in Q2) while household consumption showed no growth (+0.4 percent in Q2) and government spending slowed (+0.4 percent from +0.7 percent). In contrast, investment grew by 2.6 percent, rebounding from a 0.2 percent fall in Q2. Exports also rose 1.1 percent (from -1.4 percent in Q2) while imports went up at a slower 0.3 percent (from -2.6 percent). Year-on-year, the economy contracted 0.9 percent, following a 2.5 percent expansion in the previous quarter. It was the first contraction since the June quarter 2014.

In contrast, sales of food and live animals rose (+15.2 percent) and beverages and tobacco (+7.5 percent). Imports fell 3.6 percent to NOK 51.71 billion.

In the first half of the year, the current account surplus amounted to NOK 83.1 billion compared to NOK 154.6 billion in the same period of 2015.
