Consumer prices in Seychelles went down 0.6 percent year-on-year in January of 2017 following a 0.2 percent drop in the preceding month. Cost fell faster for communication (-33.7 percent compared to -2.7 percent in December of 2016) and miscellaneous goods & services (-8.4 percent from -2.5 percent) and increased less for food (0.2 percent from 0.3 percent), clothing & footwear (0.2 percent from 1.7 percent) and furniture & equipment (2.7 percent from 2.9 percent). In contrast, prices recovered for housing & utilities (+5.5 percent from -1.9 percent), transport (+29.3 percent from -0.8 percent), health (2.4 percent from -0.3 percent) and education (+2.6 percent from -1.3 percent). Cost rose faster alcoholic beverages (4.9 percent from 1.8 percent) and restaurant and hotel (15 percent from 1.7 percent). Month-on-month, consumer prices decreased 1 percent compared with 0.2 percent drop in the previous month.
