Prices rose at a faster pace for miscellaneous goods and services (1.6 percent from 1.1 percent). Inflation was steady for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.9 percent). Cost continued to fall for housing and utilities (-1.8 percent, same as the prior month); furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (-0.5 percent from -0.4 percent) and clothing and footwear (-0.5 percent from -0.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, following a 0.1 percent fall in March and market expectation of 0.2 percent rise.

Slovakia Industrial Production at 13.40 percent  
Industrial production in Slovakia increased 13.4 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, following a 2.6 percent rise in February and beating market expectations of 6.9 percent. It is the biggest gain since July of 2015, boosted by a 14.1 percent jump in manufacturing (2.2 percent in February), namely manufacture of transport equipment (12.8 percent); basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment (19.2 percent); food, beverages and tobacco products (33.4 percent); rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products (14.9 percent) and computer, electronic and optical products (29.7 percent). In addition, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply went up 9.1 percent (5 percent in February) and mining increased 1.7 percent (7.4 percent in February). On a monthly basis, industrial output rose 3.9 percent. Considering the first quarter of the year, production increased 7.9 percent year-on-year.

Construction output in Slovakia rose by 8.5 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, following a 10.7 percent decline in February. It was the first annual increase in construction production after twelve consecutive months of decline, as civil engineering works grew by 26.3 percent and construction of buildings went up by 4.8 percent. In the first three months of 2017, construction output declined by 5.7 percent compared with the corresponding period of 2016.

It was the largest surplus since October 2016, as exports increased more than imports, preliminary data showed. Year-on-year, sales rose 16.5 percent to EUR 6.79 billion. Imports advanced 15.3 percent to EUR 6.41 billion. Considering the first three months of 2017 trade surplus was recorded of EUR 974.8 million. Exports rose by 10.2 percent to EUR 18.31 billion while imports increased by 10.9 percent to EUR 17.34 billion.
