Consumer prices in Slovakia increased 1 percent year-on-year in March of 2017, easing from a 1.1 percent rise in February and below expectations of 1.3 percent. Inflation slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.9 percent from 2.4 percent in February); miscellaneous goods and services (1.1 percent from 1.2 percent) and transport (6.2 percent from 7.2 percent) and was steady for recreation and culture (1.3 percent). Cost continued to fall for housing and utilities (-1.8 percent from -2 percent); furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (-0.4 percent from -0.6 percent) and clothing and footwear (-0.1 percent from -0.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged down 0.1 percent, following a 0.5 percent increase in February.

It is the smallest increase since 11.8 percent fall reported in July as growth slowed in all industries: manufacturing (2.2 percent from 6.2 percent in January), mining and quarrying (7.4 percent from 19.1 percent) and utilities (5 percent from 14.2 percent). Among manufacturing the biggest declines were observed in: transport equipment (-2.3 percent); other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-10.1 percent); wood, paper products and printing (-4.7 percent); textiles, apparel, leather and related products (-4.3 percent) and chemicals and chemical products (-4.7 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output declined 0.9 percent.
