Food prices increased 7.3 percent, housing and utilities surged 25.4 percent and clothing and footwear went up 24.4 percent. Additional upward pressure came from transport (up 25.2 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (up 19.5 percent) and restaurants, cafes and hotels (up 21 percent).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1 percent, slowing from a 1.8 percent increase in April.
