The Ibovespa edged 0.1% lower to close at 157,633 on Wednesday as investors awaited a House vote to end the record government shutdown.
Locally markets parsed fresh corporate results and capital moves that left the index mixed.
Itaú Unibanco fell 2.2% after announcing a R$3.6 billion repurchase of subordinated notes issued in 2020 and maturing in 2030, while Cosan slid 4.4% after raising R$1.43 billion in a secondary offering.
Heavyweights Petrobras, WEG and Banco do Brasil underperformed, down about 3.0%, 2.2% and 2.9% respectively.
On the other hand Gol surged 11.3% after reporting a R$248 million net profit in the third quarter, reversing a R$1.42 billion loss a year earlier, and B3 rallied 4.5% as net income rose 3.5% to R$1.2 billion with EPS up 11.6% on stronger operations and buybacks.
Vale, Rede D’Or and Compania Sanea also outperformed, helping limit the index’s decline.
