Ethiopia Inflation Accelerates to 14.4% in April

The annual inflation rate in Ethiopia rose to 14.4% in April from 13.6% in the previous month, driven by broad-based price increases across key sectors.
Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages climbed by 12.2% (compared to 11.9% in March), with vegetable prices up 11.5% and bread rising by 1.4%.
Inflation also accelerated in housing and utilities (18.3% vs.
17.4%), clothing and footwear (13.9% vs.
8.7%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (16.5% vs.
15.2%), and furnishings and household maintenance (16.5% vs.
15.4%).
Meanwhile, prices for restaurants and hotels continued to rise steadily, holding at 18.3%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up by 0.1% in April, marking the slowest increase in five months, following a 2.7% rise in March.
