French Consumer Morale Weakens

France’s consumer confidence indicator fell to 92 in March 2025 from 93 in February, below market expectations of 94.
The reading also remained below its long-term average of 100.
Consumers grew more pessimistic about their financial outlook (-11 vs. -4 in February) and expectations for the future standard of living (-50 vs. -47).
At the same time, the proportion of households expecting prices to accelerate over the next 12 months increased (-41 vs. -43), while the share of those believing it is a good time to save declined (40 vs. 42).
Consumers’ outlook on their future ability to save remained unchanged (15).
Meanwhile, concerns over unemployment prospects eased (46 vs 54), and households were slightly less unfavorable toward making major purchases (-26 vs. -28).
