India recorded a merchandise trade deficit of $26.49 billion in August of 2025, narrowing slightly from the $29.7 billion gap in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Imports of goods fell by 10.1% from the previous year to $61.59 billion amid lower prices of crude oil and major energy commodities, which make up a large portion of Indian foreign purchases.
In the meantime, merchandise exports were 6.7% higher to $35 billion in the period despite the introduction of 25% in the second week of August, which were doubled by the end of the month.
