India's BSE Sensex gained ground to close about 0.8% firmer at 83,277.2 on Monday, snapping a three-day losing streak, aided by improving global sentiment and selective investor buying.
Energy stocks drove the gains, on expectations of sustained demand momentum, with Power Grid up 4.6% and NTPC rising 1.6%.
Financials also advanced, led by heavyweight HDFC Bank (+2.3%), Axis Bank (+1.9%), and Bajaj Finserv (+1.3%).
Other notable performers included ITC (1.5%), Asian Paints (1.4%), Bharti Airtel (1.2%), Adani Ports (1.1%), Tata Steel (1.1%) and Reliance Industries (1%).
IT stocks saw only a marginal rebound of around 0.2% after last week's selloff on worries about AI tools and their impact on traditional software businesses.
On the downside, Tech Mahindra fell 1.4%, Maruti shed 1.1%, and Bajaj Finance lost 1.1%.
