Turkey Retail Sales Rise to 14-Month High

Retail sales in Turkey climbed 17.7% year-on-year in May 2025, accelerating from an upwardly revised 11.7% rise in the previous month.

This marked the strongest growth since March 2024, driven by higher sales of food, drinks and tobacco (12.3% vs 7.5% in April) and non-food products (21.9% vs 14.8%).

Within the non-food category, sales increased further for pharmaceutical goods, medical and orthopedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (17.2% vs 8.2%), audio and video equipment, hardware, paints and glass, electrical household appliances, furniture, etc.

(13.2% vs 10.6%), via mail orders and internet (11.7% vs 2.6%), and automotive fuel (8.4% vs 5%), while rebounded sharply for textiles, clothing and footwear (11.3% vs -18.2%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales rose 1.6% in May, slowing from an upwardly revised 2.9% gain in April.
