Albania’s trade deficit narrowed to ALL 41.1 billion in June 2025 from ALL 42.0 billion in June 2024, as exports rose by 1.9% to ALL 35.3 billion while imports dipped 0.2% to ALL 76.7 billion. Export growth was mainly supported by higher sales of mineral, fuels, electricity (+9.7 pp) and food, beverages, tobacco (+3.1 pp), offset by a decline in construction materials and metals (-6.2 pp). Strong export gains were recorded to Kosovo (+64.8%), Germany (+39.6%), Greece (+18.1%), and the US (+21.8%), while exports fell to Italy (-6.2%), Spain (-19.3%), and North Macedonia (-21.6%). On the import side, declines in construction materials and metals (-1.9 pp) and mineral, fuels, electricity (-0.6 pp) were partially offset by increases in machinery, equipment and spare parts (+2.6 pp) and food, beverages, tobacco (+0.7 pp). Imports fell from Italy (-5.5%), Turkey (-12.1%), and the US (-4.0%), but increased from China (+29.9%), Greece (+1.3%), and Germany (+4.3%).

Albania Trade Gap Narrows in May
Albania’s trade deficit narrowed to ALL 42 billion in May 2025, down from ALL 43 billion in May 2024, driven by a 1.2% rise in exports and a 2.1% drop in imports. Export growth was supported by higher sales of minerals, fuels, and electricity (+6.2 pp), food, beverages, and tobacco (+1.4 pp), and textiles and footwear (+1 pp). In contrast, construction materials and metals dragged exports down by -5.8 pp. The decline in imports was mainly due to reduced purchases of minerals, fuels, and electricity (-1.6 pp) and construction materials and metals (-1.2 pp), while food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.8 pp), chemicals and plastics (+0.5 pp), and textiles and footwear (+0.4 pp) increased. Exports rose sharply to Kosovo (+51.5%), Spain (+33.7%), and Turkiye (+53.2%), but declined to Italy (-8%), Greece (-3.1%), and Germany (-4.3%). Imports fell from Italy (-3.6%) and Turkey (-7.5%) but rose from China (+25.1%), Greece (+1.2%), and Germany (+4%).
