The seasonally adjusted number of total dwellings approved in Australia climbed by 11.9% month-over-month to 17,076 units in June 2025, well above the market forecasts of a 2% rise and the downwardly revised 2.2% increase in May, preliminary estimates showed.

This marked the second consecutive month of growth in dwelling approvals and the strongest since May 2023, primarily driven by a significant increase in approvals for private sector dwellings excluding houses (33.1% vs 11.3% in May).

On the other hand, approvals for private sector houses declined to 2%, after a 0.5% rise in the previous month.

By region, approvals increased in New South Wales (31.5%), Queensland (7.3%), Tasmania (7.2%), and South Australia (2.5%), while decreasing in Western Australia (-6.4%) and Victoria (-6.1%).
