Mexico Auto Exports Drop in February

Auto exports in Mexico slipped by 4.4% year-on-year to 247,945 units in February 2026, after a 2.3% rise in the prior month.

Several companies recorded declines, including General Motors (-9.5% to 57,473), Ford Motor (-9.4% to 28,958), Nissan (-26.8% to 27,800), Mazda (-38.6% to 7,115), Mercedes-Benz Group (-28.4% to 2,832) and BMW (-96.6% to 288).

In the first two months of 2026, exports rose by 1.4% to 485,426 units.

The United States was the main destination, accounting for 75.7% of total, followed by Canada (12.1%) and Germany (3.3%).

Mexico Car Exports Tumble the Most in 4 Years
The exports of autos from Mexico plunged by 14.6% to 227,262 units in December of 2025, extending the 3.5% decline to mark the sharpest drop since 2021. The decrease reflected the impact of tariffs by the US government on Mexican autos and parts, which is a key manufacturing hub for global brands that sell to the US. Exports plunged for Nissan (-47.7% to 18,542), General Motors (-26.5% to 49,759), and Honda (-45.5% 10,216). For the full year, auto exports from Mexico fell by 2.68%.

Mexico Auto Exports Fall Again in November
Mexico’s car exports fell 3.5% year-on-year to 279,342 units in November 2025, following a 5.5% drop in October. Shipments declined sharply for Mazda (-73.2% to 3,523 units), Honda (-66.1% to 7,147), Nissan (-38.5% to 23,008), and Stellantis (-10.1% to 27,653). In contrast, exports surged for Ford (89.3% to 33,709), Toyota (18.1% to 31,777), and Volkswagen (9.2% to 27,794). Year-to-date, exports were down 1.6%. The US remained the top destination for light-vehicle shipments, accounting for 78.6%.
