The HCOB Germany Manufacturing PMI rose to 49.9 in August 2025 from 49.1 in the previous month, coming in above market expectations of 48.8, according to flash estimates.
The latest figure marks the highest reading since June 2022 and indicates that the sector is edging closer to stabilization.
Output saw solid and accelerated growth during the month, supported by a notable rise in new factory orders.
New orders increased at a robust pace, registering the fastest growth since March 2022.
However, export sales dipped slightly — the first decline in five months — though the decrease was marginal.
Meanwhile, employment declined at a faster pace.
On the price front, input cost inflation continued to ease, helped by falling oil prices and a relatively strong euro.
Finally, business sentiment in the manufacturing sector improved slightly compared to the previous month, in contrast to more subdued expectations in the service sector.
