The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany increased for a third month to 52.7 in July 2025, the highest since February 2022, compared to 47.5 in June and beating expectations of 50.3.
"Despite ongoing uncertainty related to global trade conflicts, almost two-thirds of the experts expect an improvement in the German economy.
Hopes for a speedy resolution of the US-EU tariff dispute and potential economic stimulus from the German government's planned emergency investment program appear to dominate sentiment.
This increased optimism is reflected in particular in sharply increased expectations for mechanical engineering and metal production, followed by the electrical engineering sector," ZEW President Prof.
Achim Wambach, commented.
Meanwhile, the ZEW current conditions improved to -59.5, the highest since June 2023 and compared to -72 in the previous month.
