President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed into law a one-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a preferential trade program for Africa, running through December 31 and applied retroactively from September 30, 2025, according to U.S.
Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
The move restores duty-free access to the U.S.
market for eligible Sub-Saharan African countries after the program lapsed in September.
First enacted in 2000, AGOA allows qualifying countries to export more than 1,800 products to the United States without tariffs, supporting trade, investment, and employment across the region.
