US equities were mixed on Friday, with the S&P 500 oscillating around the flatline, the Nasdaq edging up 0.1%, and the Dow Jones falling nearly 300 points.
Financials and utilities were the weakest-performing sectors, while energy stocks outperformed.
Nvidia (1.6%) advanced after reports that Chinese officials told the country’s major technology firms they could begin preparing orders for Nvidia’s H200 AI chips.
In contrast, Intel shares plunged more than 14% after the company issued a weaker-than-expected outlook and warned of ongoing challenges.
Broadcom (-2.5%) and Apple (-0.9%) also traded lower.
On the data front, the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index was revised higher to a five-month high, while flash S&P Global PMI readings pointed to a slight slowdown in growth across both services and manufacturing.
For the week, the S&P 500 (-0.4%) and the Nasdaq (-0.3%) are on track for their second consecutive week of losses, while the Dow Jones is little changed.
