Consumer prices in East Timor were flat year-on-year in December of 2016, following 0.8 percent fall in the previous month. It was the first flat rate, after 13 month decline. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages were flat ( 0.0 percent from -1.1 percent in November). Prices increased at a faster pace for alcohol and tobacco (+3 percent from 2 percent). While prices rose at a slower pace for clothing and footwear ( +0.9 percent from +1 percent), and prices were steady for health (+1.9 percent), recreation and culture (+1.4 percent), and education (+6 percent). In contrast prices dropped for furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-5.8 percent from - 5.7 percent), transport (-3.2 percent from -3.4 percent), and communication (-0.5 percent from -0.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5 percent, after a 0.2 percent increase in November.
