It was the third straight month of growth and the fastest since November of 2013, driven by an increase in prices of electricity, gas, stream and water conditioning supply (6.8 percent from 7.7 percent in the prior month), manufacturing (2.7 percent from 1.5 percent) and water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation service (3.4 percent the same as in November). In contrast, prices fell for mining and quarrying (-11.7 percent from -12.6 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices were flat, after growing by 0.6 percent in November.

Consumer prices in Estonia rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in December of 2016, compared to a 1.0 percent rise in November. It was the fifth straight month of increase and the highest inflation rate since August 2013, driven by a surge in cost of transport (+5.0 percent vs -0.5 percent in the prior month) while cost went up at a faster pace for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.3 percent vs +1.1 percent), housing (+2.0 percent vs +0.5 percent); hotels, cafes and restaurants (+2.9 percent vs +2.8 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (+2.1 percent vs +2 percent). Cost rose at slower pace for: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+6.4 percent vs +7.3 percent), clothing (+1.3 percent vs +1.9 percent). Inflation was steady for education (+5.4 percent). In contrast, prices fell for: household goods (-0.8 percent vs -0.6 percent) and communication (-1.7 percent vs -1.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent, compared to a 0.1 percent increase in November.
