Consumer prices in Mauritius rose 2.2 percent percent year-on-year in November of 2016 compared to a 1.5 percent gain in the prior month, reaching the highest inflation rate since March 2015. Month-on-month, consumer prices increased 0.3 percent caused by rise in cost of clothing and footwear (+2.0 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+1.0 percent); transport (+0.6 percent), restaurants and hotels (+0.5 percent); food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.2 percent); Prices for housing and utilities, communication and education were flat and cost fell for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.5 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (-0.5 percent) and recreation and culture (-0.1 percent).
