Consumer prices in Jordan went up 4.6 percent year-on-year in January of 2017, following a 2.5 percent rise in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since October of 2013, as prices increased for transport (18 percent from 11 percent in January); housing and utilities (2.9 percent from 2.6 percent); food (0.7 percent from -1.4 percent) and furniture and equipment (1.4 percent from 1.2 percent). In contrast, cost fell further for clothing and footwear (-3.4 percent from -2.9 percent). On a monthly basis, prices went up 0.8 percent compared to a 1 percent rise in January.

Producer prices in Jordan rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in January of 2017, compared to 4.4 percent drop in December. It was the first increase in producer prices after 27 straight months of decline. Prices went up for manufacturing (4.3 percent vs -2 percent in December) and fell less for mining and quarrying (-19.7 percent vs -26.4 percent). Meanwhile, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning cost declined further (-3.7 percent vs -3.6 percent). On a monthly basis, factory gate prices jumped 1.6 percent.
