The annual inflation rate in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, rose to 2.7% in March 2026 from 1.8% in February, marking the highest level since January 2024. Core inflation rose 2.4%. Energy prices climbed 8.3%, with fuel costs surging 20.6%, partly driven by the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Food prices edged up by 0.4%, led by a sharp 4.8% rise in fruits, while services also increased, particularly in overnight stays (6.3%) and cultural services (3.6%).
