Italy Inflation Rate Rises Slightly in November

Italian consumer prices are expected to grow for the second consecutive month by an annual 0.2 percent in November of 2014. Yet, on a monthly basis, prices fell 0.2 percent.

Year-on-year, upward pressures came from prices of services (+ 0.9 percent), grocery and unprocessed food (+ 0.8 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.5 percent). Cost of non-regulated energy products fell the most (-3.2 percent), followed by goods (-0.4 percent). 

Excluding unprocessed food and energy, core inflation was recorded at 0.5 percent; excluding energy, the inflation was 0.5 percent.

On a monthly basis, the largest downward pressures came non-regulated energy products prices (-2.4 percent). Cost of transport (- 1.2 percent) and recreation (-0.8 percent) also fell, mostly due to seasonal effects. In contrast, prices of fresh vegetables increased 8.5 percent, fresh fruit cost advanced 2.4 percent and communication increased by 1.5 percent.

The harmonized CPI rose 0.2 percent compared with November 2013, the same rate as in October and declined 0.3 compared with the previous month.
