Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the highest increase (22.8 percent), following a 16.4 percent rise in December. Among food, sugar increased the most (67.9 percent), followed by cereals (44.9 percent) and fruit and vegetables (40.7 percent).
Additional upward pressures came from alcoholic beverages and tobacco (16.1 percent), health care (15.2 percent), transport (11.3 percent), housing, water, electricity and gas (9.3 percent) and clothing and footwear (7.3 percent).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 3.9 percent in January, driven by a 6.6 percent rise in food cost.
